Guide to a Nutritious Lifestyle
You spend copious amounts of time at the gym. You’re improving your form, increasing your lifts, but you fail to see a difference in your physic. You may ask, what am I doing wrong? The answer, although it may be different for a select few, usually is a result of your nutritious habits. Often times we put our health on the back burner because we’re drinking our protein shakes postworkout, and we are “too busy” to implement a healthy eating schedule.
The gym is a key fundamental to living a healthy lifestyle. But people overlook the behind the scenes work that is needed to maximize gains while at the gym. Fueling your body with the right foods, and more importantly, the right amount of food, is what will help you see the most improvement. We all have different health goals. Losing weight before summer, adding weight before next season, or getting lean for that next competition. Let’s make this clear.
THERE IS NO PERFECT DIET FOR EVERYONE
It’s no secret that people like success. Changing your diet to match your gym buddy may be a good start, but expecting to see the same changes and improvements is not always the answer. The best way to see what works best for YOU is to try different eating habits and see the effects it has on your body and your mind.
It’s not a bad thing to experiment with a low-carb diet or to go vegan. But, oftentimes people get so caught up in the most recent health trend that it controls their life. Instead of letting your eating habits control your life, you need to control your eating habits and it will reap great health benefits in the future.
A healthier way to approach a new diet is to create good eating habits. Yes, it’s important to eat your fruits, vegetables, and lean meats, but are you cutting trans fat and processed food out of your diet? It’s not easy to transform your eating habits overnight, but if you are serious about making a change, cutting out those “delicious” but unhealthy foods is a good place to start. Living a healthy lifestyle starts with you, and we want to empower you to make good decisions that will benefit you long term.
Making small changes each day may not seem like a big deal, but you need to start building that muscle memory now when the temptation is highest so you don’t go back to your old eating habits later.
Eating healthy is a learning process. Take what you learn about yourself and your eating habits and continuously improve them. There are plateaus you may hit, and factors that are out of your control, but the important thing to remember is how far you’ve come and what your end goal is.
Hopefully, that goal is living a positive healthy lifestyle that gives the best opportunity to be happy in life.
